It’s a given, when your favorite makeup brand goes on mega sale, everyone squirms to the counters. But it seems that there is already a proposal that will make the everyday makeup you where more expensive. Just recently, party-list lawmaker Representative Rodel Batocabe has proposed a hike in vanity tax by 10 to 30 percent. Why would he do such a thing, you ask? According to Rep. Batocabe, it’s a better choice to increase vanity tax over tax for petroleum and fuel. He believes such a move will be better for the poor, as fuel and petroleum consumption has a graver demand and necessity.

This means additional pesos shed on your must-have eyeliner, lipstick and even on beauty services you take such as whitening treatments.

However, salesladies and receptionist who need makeup as a part of their everyday work attire and falls under the minimum wage brackets complains that this pressures more cons on their end. The passed increase in vanity tax is yet to be confirmed or approved but is in the deliberation as of the moment. Say goodbye to a shorter list of affordable drugstore dupes under P500!
