In our September The Yard series, we breakdown some of our recommended scrumptious foodstops within The Yard. But the first leg goes out to one of The Yard’s eye-catching cafes. Fratello Cafe’s ingenious idea sparked when owner Mike Tan still served as a seminarian in Rome during 1997. It may have been a long way back, but it was the brothers he met in the seminary that fueled his love for cooking and brewing coffee. Fratello, meaning brother, is an ode to Fratello Mauricio and Fratello Francisco. The cafe embodies the Italian approach to food, which mike shares is coffee which is “fast, strong and burning hot.”
They’ve got the most divine coffee bean aroma that’ll lure you to take a seat in their crisp white corner cafe. While the melted cheese in their grilled cheese sandwiches will smother you with a mouthful of bursting cheesiness. But if you’re the type that wants a quick fix, they can accommodate that too. With a drink and go aspect: They have a fine selection of frappes and iced coffees that are ideal for any foodtrip. Try their Frappe under a cloud for a unique thirst-quenching experience. Imagine a latte with a cotton candy on top! But if you want to indulge in more of a crumbly dessert, they also have frappes with cookies.
But if you have time to spare, don’t forget to order their pasta. It’s got a recipe that’s firsthand passed down from Mike’s Fratellos in Italy. And while your at it, snap a few shots of their food and tag them at @cafe.fratello. We’re sure you won’t regret it!
Find them at 2/F, The Yard, Xavierville, Quezon City or check out their Facebook page at facebook.com/FratelloCafe.
