Miss Universe may have its fair share of international audiences but just last night Miss International had all eyes glued on the screen as Philippine Representative Kylie Verzosa snagged the Miss International 2016 title. The prestigious beauty competition was held in Tokyo Hall City Dome, Japan honing in 68 contestants. Kylie did not dissappoint throughout the competition, maintaining a constant posture of grace and exuding world-class beauty. In the minute speech given to the top 15 chosen finalists, Kylie discussed the value of international understanding and how this can better the relationship of varied cultures.
In her speech, Kylie explains:
Three things come to mind when I think of Miss International: culture, education, and international understanding. These three work together to make the brand of Miss International beauty pageant relevant to the global community and to our time. If I become Miss International 2016, I will devote myself to cultural understanding and international understanding because I believe that it is in developing in each of us sensitivity to other cultures that we expand our horizons, tolerate difference and appreciate diversity. All these enables us to achieve international understanding and I believe I am prepared to take on this responsibility.
Following Kylie’s win is Australia for first runner-up, Indonesia for second runner-up, Nicaragua for third runner-up and lastly, United States for fourth runner-up. Kylie is the sixth Filipina to bag the Miss International crown with former Filipina winners; Miss International 1964 Gemma Cruz, Miss Internation 1960 Aurora Pijuan, Miss Internation 1979 Melanie Marquez, Miss Internation 2005 Lara Quigaman, and Miss Internation 2013 Bea Rose Santiago.
